Art Deco Lounge

This bar is perhaps the pinnacle of my engineering skills. The developers of our project were looking for something really special for their golf simulator room. The story goes that it was originally inspired by a bar we had seen in a film called Passengers (2016). Once we were moving forward with the idea I was tasked with retrofitting it to the space and essentially reverse engineering it from the outside in.

Upon getting through the initial engineering and sizing process I took cues from the Nolan Mains logo to bring the brand into the concept as well— you can see it in the custom fretwork I designed for the alcoves and base cabinet doors. This was perhaps my favorite part of the process. I loved imbuing this extremely custom object with the Nolan Mains brand— that’s what I enjoy most about a truly custom experience. I can make anything fit you, your brand, your lifestyle— like a glove.

This is the original inspiration from Passengers. Notice how while the concept is the same the scale/rooms are incredibly different.

This is another exploded view of the structural elements in the back of the bar. The alcoves along with the countertop were backlit except with the alcoves they were backed with mirror so we had to engineer a way to get the lighting into the openings without seeing the hotspots in the reflection.

We had to stage the bar in the shop in order to cut templates to make sure our countertop was fitting correctly before we cut into the resin.

This is the Nolan Mains logo which I used to drive the fretwork in the alcoves as well as on the doors behind the bar.

This is an exploded view of the interior parts contained in the top structure of the bar allowing it to safely cantilever over the bar.

This is the fretwork I designed to go behind the bar. I used essentially looked at the Nolan Mains logo and asked myself how I could expand upon it to bring some interest to the back counter.

Here’s the bar post-install:
